Data collected during one activity can sometimes trigger a later process, so staff do not have to enter the same information twice. In practice, the benefit depends on whether the systems involved can actually exchange information reliably.

Integration becomes more complicated when agricultural businesses have accumulated software over several years. For platform buyers, integration should therefore be considered during the initial selection process rather than after a purchase. Existing applications, data formats and workflow dependencies can determine how much work is required before automation produces useful results. A platform that fits the existing technology environment may be easier to deploy than one requiring extensive changes.
