Fremont, CA: Anyone regional supervisor of China's food markets has started an agricultural product traceability platform based on blockchain, including AI, big data, and cloud computing. The Guangzhou Municipality's Market Supervision Bureau applied this platform to monitor the flow of food products and allow efficient market control for the administration to assure food safety.
The capital of Guangdong province, China, had already reported various instances of food safety violations. Even though the food supervisors' strict watch on the markets, it was impossible to validate when the quality of food products accurately followed the measures. At present, the food trackability platform covers 8018 businesses in 90 agricultural markets all across the city.
The trackability platform aggregates production data, including farm-related details such as farmer information, method, and harvest time. The next stage in the process is to record the inspection and certify the details of the agricultural produce.
"This set of trackability systems applies blockchain technology to upload information like market access, daily inspection and supervision, market operators, law enforcement by merchants, and regulatory authorities to the blockchain," a Guangzhou Municipal Market Supervision Bureau representative said RFID World. "The data automatically results an electronic label, parallel to the data uploaded by every principal responsible person's official seal."
The blockchain food traceability platform focuses on improving food safety in all city regions by working with market operators, merchants, and traders. It also works along with regulatory authorities and consumers. In addition, the blockchain acts as an immutable ledger in the production and inspection of agricultural produce.
AI technology also plays a main role in verifying the authenticity of bills submitted by traders and market operators.
The report suggests that 95% of traders and other participants record their activities daily, while 5% of the gross daily bills possess errors and abnormalities. After this, more than 8000 merchants are utilizing the platform, recording almost 708,000 purchase orders and 4 million sales orders.
Remote supervision of food products disposed of in Guangzhou markets is enabled by blockchain, ensuring that no inferior products reach the shelves. The blockchain trackability system facilitates easy retrieval of products as well. Consumers can view trackability information such as sales documentation, stall qualifications, sampling information, and regulatory records with the blockchain solution. In addition, consumers can file complaints against merchants and sellers via the platform and provide assistance to protect their consumer rights using the online process.
