agribusinessreview.comJUN - AUG 20226Today, digital technologies are transforming agriculture across the world and uplifting rural economies and food systems into becoming more inclusive, productive, resilient, and sustainable. Agtech, or agricultural technology, has grown to symbolize a slew of cutting-edge new technologies such as drones, sensors, and intelligent robots. These are supplemented by tools developed through "fintech," or financial technology, to assist farmers in obtaining finance and accessing financial support markets. As a result of the substantial expansion in mobile phone and smartphone ownership, as well as network coverage across rural Asia over the previous two decades, farmers and agribusinesses are increasingly leveraging digital technology to address their problems. The increase in the cost of raw materials, shortage of labor, and rising demand for transparency and sustainability in agriculture are some of the driving forces for the implementation of Agtech. However, there are structural issues that require public sector and donor assistance, particularly to improve results for smallholder farmers. Several countries have established robust digital farming portals which are providing farmers with access to accurate information, subsidies on seeds and fertilizer, and a fair market to sell their produce. Accurate data on crop and the environment are collected through devices such as drones and sensors, which are linked through IoT systems to provide timely action. Digital agtech devices like sensors and drones for managing nutrition and pests in crops are offered through several entrepreneurs and companies. In this edition of AgTech APAC 2022, we bring you some of the leading companies that have excelled through innovation in delivering Agricultural technology solutions. We hope the inspiring success stories of these providers benefit our readers in pursuit of an ideal collaboration.
