agribusinessreview.comDECEMBER 20226In the wake of COVID-19, many countries realized that bolstering food production and distribution systems is crucial to fighting hunger and tackling malnutrition. Couple this with the increase in health consciousness, and a shift from conventional farming methods to indoor farms that produce organic food using advanced techniques was inevitable. Simultaneously, as vacant and arable land and water to support conventional agriculture dwindle, the need for indoor farming is increasing, with the market predicted to reach $88.2 billion at a CAGR of 12.7 percent during the forecast period from 2022 and 2028.Indoor farming allows individuals to grow necessary crops on a small scale, driving the production of pest- and pesticide-free food products. Leafy vegetables, herbs, vegetables, fruits, microgreens, and flowers are some of the various crops indoor farms can grow. Moreover, indoor farming reduces food miles significantly through the creation of agripreneurs to provide a safer, fresher, and more cost-effective food source. The impact of LED illumination on plants is another breakthrough in indoor farming, which is proven to boost plant health and final yield. The technology is still in its infancy and needs to be refined before it can be considered ideally helpful and financially viable. Similarly, research for many indoor farming technologies are currently underway to determine the impact of these technologies on the shelf life of a plant. In this edition of Agri Business Review, we present to you some of the most promising indoor farming solution providers. The edition features thought leadership articles from Graham Wilkinson, Vice President of Agriculture at Arla Foods, Kelvin Llaverias, IT Director, FCC Agriculture at Florida Crystals Corporation, and Karthik Sekar, Senior Data Scientist, Climax Foods. The edition also showcases innovative solutions from companies, including Pangea Global Technologies which provides lighting solutions and wireless controllers for indoor farming and Shipshape Urban Farms, which focuses on the development of a hydroponic container garden inside an up-cycled shipping container.Revolutionizing Agri Businesses for the FutureEDITORIALLayla HawkinsManaging Editoreditor@agribusinessreview.comEDITORIAL STAFFAva GarciaDavies MedowsJohnson Heller Joshua ParkerAncel Castelinosales@agribusinessreview.comeditor@agribusinessreview.commarketing@agribusinessreview.comEmailVISUALIZERSOlivia SmithPresley MeadowDisclaimer: *Some of the Insights are based on our interviews with CIOs and CXOsMANAGING EDITORLayla Hawkins Agri Business Review Visit www.agribusinessreview.comCopyright © 2022 ValleyMedia, Inc.
